It is the intention of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to adopt a Sandyford Urban Framework Plan at the next Council Meeting to be held on Monday 12th September 2011.  The County Manager has now released his final recommendations which now include provision for excessive heights along the Blackthorn Road.  The County Manager’s recommendation, released this week, reneges on a commitment given by him in April this year.

At the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Meeting on the 11th April 2011, your elected Councillors put forward the following Motion on your behalf.

“That this Council amend CDP Variation No 2 - DraftSUFP (Sandyford Urban Framework Plan) as follows:

Remove the provision for additional height on sites 3 and 4 (D14)and remove relevant star symbol which denotes special provision for additional height of 1-2 storeys.”

This motion wasaccepted by the County Manager, Owen Keegan and incorporated into the Draft of the Sandyford Urban Framework Plan.   The County Manager, following submissions by developers and landowners, now wishes to REVERSE this motion.

He recommends ADDITIONAL HEIGHTS along Blackthorn Avenue and is reneging on the commitment made earlier this year.

We have all suffered the consequences of developer-led planning decisions in Sandyford. It is time the Council officials pay heed to the voice of local residents and their elected representatives.

We urge you to contact the County Manager and email or ring your Local Councillors to ensure that the above Motion stands and the County Manager’s recommendations for increased height in his August Report are rejected by Councillors.  28 Councillors will vote on this plan at the next Council meeting so your Local Councillors must also ensure that they get the support of their other party members on the Council.
