TIDY DISTRICTS COMPETITION 2010

Once again the Stillorgan Wood Residents Association is entering the Tidy Districts Competition.  Our last two entries (2008 and 2009) achieved 2nd prize.  A huge effort is needed from all residents to enable us to win 1st prize in our category and we would be most grateful for your assistance in this.

In the recent newsletter we advised that judging will take place in September.Unfortunately we were misinformed and, in fact, judging will take place in JUNE.

The Committee will be responsible for the entrance, the garden and the open spaces. We have also planned a number of other initiatives to enhance the local environment.

In order to achieve the maximum marks, every household will need to make an effort. As we know, the standard in our estate is very high, but there are some matters which would improve our chances this year

We would ask residents to pay particular attention to the following:- (suggestions from the Environment Dept)

  • Please maintain your grass verges and remove weeds in the gullies
  • Keep front gardens neat and tidy and litter free
  • Store bins out of sight (preferably in the back)
  • Do not park on the grass verges

We would ask that residents volunteer some of their time in helping the Committee.  We all benefit when our surroundings are well kept and it should not depend on just a few.  Now that the school holidays are approaching, perhaps children could be encouraged to take part in the tidying work and thus get involved with, their community. They will be under adult supervision.

We have planned the following dates (each Tuesday and Friday of June at 7 pm) for the Tidy Ups and would be extremely grateful if you could join us on at least one of these occasions.  (If you have a motor mower, it would be a great help if you could bring it to the woods as when the Council cuts the grass there are always patches left uncut).

We are vulnerable to passersby and people coming through the estate leaving litter.  We need to be especially vigilant, as we do not know the day the judge will visit.

We would be extremely grateful for the cooperation of Residents in this matter.
